Wow! Your foggy bridge image is brilliant! What do you like to shoot with? I still play with my cannon XTI, but I'm thinking of upgrading. Might be fun to get a mega-zoom lens and try some wee, early morning hours of wildlife shooting.
300mm is just not going to cut it.
Really enjoyed your architecture shots too. You have an eye for capturing buildings.
Thanks so much! I had always used 35mm Pentax to shoot with, but about 2 years ago I decided to get into digital and got a Canon g10. I figured it shoots in RAW and it would be a good camera to learn digital and it was. Like you I am looking to upgrade in the next few months. I like Canon so I will stick with a Canon. I need a camera body that is weather resistant and has a good sized sensor. I know they are coming out with a lot of new stuff soon so I am keeping a close watch. As you know camera body is less important than the lens. I have to get new lenses too, so I am looking at them a lot now too. I heard an interview with the main Canon engineer and the new zooms should be incredible with only a 1% light loss, so I will be looking closer at zooms. I am pretty excited about how fast the technology is advancing. Yeah, 300mm is pretty good and 500mm would get you much closer, but remember to consider the weight of the bigger lenses. They can get pretty hefty. I have never really tried shooting wildlife even though I have spent a lot of time in natural areas. Your art work is so creative, I would love to see your photos. Do you live in a place where there is a lot of wildlife? What other kind of photography do you enjoy doing?
I like canon too. I know others who prefer Nikon, they make a fine machine as well... just all my lenses from before were canon, so I stuck with what I knew. Hows that for open research? ha.
My T3 has been a sturdy machine. (No one was more surprised than I that it has held up to my bumps and bruising.) I know what you're saying... it's the lenses that are the pain to the pocketbook. I picked up my camera body for cheap off an ebay auction, and luck serve me, it's held up. Lenses though - whew. A rare treat when I get a new one.
You are too cool. Just have to get that into this response.
As for my own photos, oh, I promise, it's still just a hobby. If I were to release a book right now, it'd be 'TOO LATE TO LOOK! ANIMAL BUTTS OF NORTH AMERICA' That is a nice thing about painting... if one wants it there, one can just paint it in. With a photo, it's there for a moment, and you can't get it back.
There is a load of wildlife where I'm at in the Dakotas, cougars to bison, wild horses, hawks, eagles, coyotes, antelope, elk, you name it. I really like to shoot in the Canadian Rockies though. Soooooo gorgeous!
'TOO LATE TO LOOK! ANIMAL BUTTS OF NORTH AMERICA' ROFL- I got a good belly laugh out of that one. I can relate to you on animal photography very well. You need great lenses and a lot of patience. I have to work on both. I know the best photographers study the habits of the animals they want to shoot and then set up a blind in a place the animals frequent. Then they just wait until they get what they want. While I watch weather closely and make many trips to a site to get a shot I want, I would find it very hard to set up a blind and wait for the animal to come to me. Maybe for the right animal if I really wanted the shot.
You live in a paradise for wildlife and nature. I bet you already know places nearby where you can get some interesting wildlife shots. I think shooting things that are in the area where you live is a great idea. I start to drool just thinking about the Rockies in Canada or the US. I definitely plan on going back there. I want to see Yellowstone National Park too. Have you spent much time there?
Of course we have some wildlife here like deer and bobcats. We have cougars, but they are so shy in my whole life I have only seen one in the wild here. Yosemite National Park is about 5 hours from here and has lots of black bears in addition to wonderful waterfalls. Anytime I have ever been abroad and felt home sick I wanted to see Yosemite. I just love it there.
"You are too cool. Just have to get that into this response." You are such a sweetie! I have to say I really enjoy talking with you. I wish we lived closer. We have so many things in common it is too bad we can't go out for a day of shooting or have chat over lunch. But at least we have the internet to close any distance.
All of this talk about photography makes me want to get a better camera sooner, but I have to be patient. I am still watching Canon for the next camera body with the price and specs that I want. Cross your fingers that it comes out soon
